Flashing on boot with 2nd MFX card.

Postby BIGBRUH » Tue Jun 19, 2012 8:05 pm

Hello. New to D8b. Bought a second MFX card and now the board flashes when I boot it. After a few times of this it boots and gives the ERROR:DSP CARD NOT READY. LAST KNOWN STATE:RESET message. Once it says that it boots fine and the card shows up but I have to turn it on. All works fine until I power down the board when it starts all over again. Any thoughts on what is causing this?

BTW I did have a spdif output connected to the board.

So it only exhibits this behavior with a second MFX card installed?

So it seems. I take the card out and all is well. Otherwise if the card is recognized but not active all is well. But if I turn off the d8b with that second card active it happens on the next boot.

What happens if you flip the two cards? Trying to see if it is the slot or the card.

Flipping cards shows up in similar fashion. I have tried each card in each slot. Next to each other and with a gap between. Same issue. One card is fine, the other is recognized but not active. When I activate, it works but upon reboot.....flashing

Have you tried removing all cards and then inserting only the suspect card and if so do you still get the same symptom.

If with only the suspect card inserted you get the same problem, then I would think that there could be something wrong/strange with the new card.

In an instance like this, I'd pull both cards, clean the edge connectors, re-install them in slots 1 & 2, change the battery, meticulously verify the BIOS settings for your MOBO and re-install both the OS and Service Pack 3. Then I'd head off to bed for 40 winks :)

I read this and sort of chuckled. Slot 2 fails. Swap cards.....slot 2 fails.

And then this: "New to D8b. Bought a second MFX card and now the board flashes when I boot it."

For well over 12 years (I'm guessing) slots 2,3 and 4 have remained empty. Yes, cleaning the card connector will help....but what really needs to be done is exercising the slot connector by vigorously rocking the card in and out of the slot. I'd do that first and see how it goes.

I've had the same symptoms in the past and that's what fixes it. And whatever you do, don't spray anything but compressed air into the slot. Clean the card connector and rock it in the slot. A lot.

I appreciate all of the advice. I have some cycles to try these tonight.

Been out of town for a little while. It appears that there is a problem with the card. I suppose back from whence it came.
