Prefader and Post fader metering

Postby Carlo » Sat Oct 19, 2013 9:06 pm

Dear All,

I know that on Version 5.1 you can change the OS meter type from Pre to post fader. Is there a way how to do it on OS v3 or else change the physical metering of the console from pre to post fader? :?:

Thanks

C

Its important to know what is the level going to tape (Post fader) otherwise it might clip. I use the V5.1 and since now i'm using the V3 on my second d8b i would like to know how you usually used to use this OS3 in this respect when mixing in order to keep the levels healthy without clipping. On the V5.1 i use the on screen meters as post fader which helps a lot.

Thanks
Carlo

It has been so many years since I used V3, i just don't remember. If it were possible on V3, it would be in the same place you did it on V.5.1.

Are you worried about this while multitracking or for mixing? I am trying to understand your desire for this I guess.

When I multitrack a session, I am not using "Fader to tape" so all of my signals are coming straight off the preamp and the meters reflect that. When I am am mixing, my fader moves are reflected on the master buss.

Hi Crash,

Thanks for your reply. On the V5.1 you can monitor post fader so any shelving or compression done can be monitored for clipping etc. I'm worried not for tracking but during mixing while you are actually balancing things out.

The meter is showing those changes via compression and eq in pre fader. I am playing with it as I type. If I boost EQ, the input meter on that channel goes up as does the master L/R meter. Same with compression and gating...

Are you doing this pre or post fader mode?

So what's the post-fader setting for?
