Bleed from phones mix to control room

Hello,

I have a question, if thats normal or I need to check my d8b...

Let's say that I have 2 inputs 13/14 channel panned L/R, they are assigned to Master L/R out. That two channels are also assigned to Aux 9/10.

I'm controlling monitors using monitor section - mains and nearfield. When on the control room everything is turned off, and phones section have no selection - it's quiet from the monitors, when I select Aux 9/10 on headphone section too...

unless I connect headphones to the socket. If the Aux 9/10 is selected on either headphone section, and the master L/R is deselected on control room section, plus when I connect headphones aswell, I get a quiet bleed from aux 9/10 to the monitors output. Is that normal, or something is messed up in my d8b?

Can anyone tell?

Hey System32;

My first answer without doing a test, is that the "quiet bleed" is in fact "cross-talk". This was more common in analogue consoles but I have heard cross-talk between channels, specifically mic or line channel inputs, on my d8b.

They are very quiet, like -50db down, but it is there.

Perhaps your bleed is cross-talk in analogue sections of the monitoring circuits.

Just a thought.

Cheers
Bruce

Hello,

thanks for your reply. Yea it could be it... it's quiet like you said so, around -50db, but it makes impossible to record ie. vocals with condenser mic in the same room using that phones mix method. I just wanted to know if my d8b is messed up or is it normal, so I could either repair it or use other method. Cheers

For giggles, are you running balanced cables with your monitors? I know this is not your exact situation but I have heard of oddities with unbalanced cables used with monitor feeds.

I need to check if the cables have "cold" soldered to a ring, because they are "DIY". That could be the possible problem.

Thank You very much Crash, I really appreciate this. Cheers

It won't make any difference if your amp inputs are unbalanced. Crash's link is correct.
