Loss of audio after warm up

Hi,

I´m still using the audio functions of our beloved baby, because it´s fine the way it is.
But, strange behaviour since yesterday, since it served me well now for some years.
After bootup sequence it runs audio for about 5 minutes, then audio in gets lost, no meter reaction too.
At bootup shows "error #74 - can´t communicate with plugins"
All other functions still running, syncs to incoming midi TC as well.

I searched the database and ws reminded, what to do:
Make the audio and effx cards have continuity again by taking them out and moving them in again.
I did just that and was successful, but only for 5 hours.
Now it´s the same again and I want to overcome that situation.
Is there no way to avoid going into surgery again ?

Please, give me advice on how to continue,

Best
Manfred

Hi Manfred;

I have no experience with this problem but can offer so advice and thoughts.

1- Start by removing the plug-ins and see if the boot last longer. Could be a bad EFX card.
2- Reset/clean the "edge" connectors that join the EFX back plane to the PCB that it connected to.
3- Reset/clean the power connection to the back plane board.

Many problems the exists with our beloved d8b can be solved by resetting and clean the many edage connectors that exist inside. Make sure to use a good contact cleaner.

Post back with your progress. I'm sure others will give their thoughts as well.

Good luck
Bruce

These are worth a look given your symptoms, particulary the second post.

Hi Bruce, hi Peter,

thanks for your help, I appreciate it,

today I started with disconnecting the effx cards.
The board was running ~ 4hours and then freezing audio. So at least I know it´s not the cards.

I´m in the middle of fixing a lot of other stuff, so it´s perfect time for going into surgery tomorrow.
I will take special care of those ribbon cables, edge connectors.

I´ll keep you informed about the further going on

Best
Manfred

Just to let the community know about my "further going on":

I finally found the time to dive into the board and go cleaning the ribbon cable connectors.
Cleaned each connector with isopropanol and a tooth brush.
It´s running 48 hours for a test now and I think I got it fixed.

A friend of mine told me about trouble with these connectors:
They tend to lose softening agent over the time and subsequently lose contact.
Sometimes the only help would be to cut off the connectors and solder them directly to the pins.

As I move to a DM2000 and will sell my console, I want to say thank you to everyone who helped me on this fore.
You´re a great community and I don´t think, I´ll find one like this with the Yamaha console.
Anyhow, I´ll keep in touch, like others !

Best wishes for mental and physical health
Manfred
