Surface Control Card Not Ready

Hi all,

Not used my D8B and I'm not getting "Surface Control Card Not Ready" displaying on both the console and vga display. I've had a read on http://www.d8bforum.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=830 and followed the link suggesting one of the internal power cables. Checked, cleaned and re-seated these with no joy.

Any other ideas as I don't want to have to bin in :(

Thanks

Just as a suggestion, I'd check the BIOS. Details are in the database. The settings are different for the 166MHz and 300MHz versions. Be pedantic.

from the Service Manual:

Control Surface: Control surface LEDs, including VPOT indicators are updated via SIPO shift Registers .....

in the block schematics on page 12 the control surface is marked as Switches LEDs and VPOts, so not the fader boards.

try the following: the ribbon cables (black connector and Grey cable) from brain board to the control surfaces may Need to be reseated. so disconnect and reconnect These plugs: (do this also on the control surface Cards, not only on the brain board)

- Brainboard J36 to Line control surface J36
- Brainboard J37 to Mic control surface J37
- Brainboard J35 to Output Card J35

check the supply voltage of each control surface Card !!! maybe one has a missing 5V. There are Fuses on the boards labled with FB## (measure behind These fuses to check if they are working.

I expect that you have a bad Connection on These cables, or you may have a missing 5V supply on one of These 3 control surface Cards.

Thanks both,

Checked BIOS, reseated cables, checked voltages behind fuses. From what I can tell all OK.

Reading the service manual it states that when running corrected only the red led should be on (and blinking) on the brain board. I'm getting a solid green light during the boot process, flicking red and flashing green when booted.

Any one have any idea on what this means? Video of boot https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0I3kRjcAriE

I have ad this error message many times, for me, it either means a reboot or re-seating of the data cable and BFC connectors, that usually fixes it?

Maybe somebody that owns a d8b with CPU/PSU is willing to make this Experiment?

on the brainboard:
- sconnect J35
- boot d8b and check if you get the same error.
- Afterwards reconnect again.

repeat These steps with J36,J37,J38,J39,J40 and note where/if you get this error message.

I do not have a CPU/PSU so I cannot test it
