Q : Is it possible to re install to your old original serial nr. If you only want to test the cracked one to get the plugins?

Your choices are to use your current ESN with 5.1 and any plugs that have been authorized with that ESN, or to use the crack ESN and any plugs that have been authorized with that crack ESN. You can't mix and match an OS authorized with one ESN and plugs authorized with another ESN. Is that what you're asking?

You need to FTP into \system5\Firmware on your d8b filesystem and copy the new hacked control.asc (the console firmware) into your d8b filesystem at that location. It's best to keep a copy of your original control.asc.

Here's an article in the database -

Thanks Bit Sync.

That Simple.

Backup original and drag and drop the new file into the removed ones place?

No need to do anything else?

Thanks for the link to the database. I did find that but wasn't sure if that was it.

Thanks
Bruce

Hi BitSync,
I have never had good success in trying to use FTP. Can I install 5.1 & then remove the drive & access it via USB to replace this file? Thanks.

Have a blessed evening in Christ,

Yeah, that simple. Of course the work munk did to scour the firmware code and hack a solution wasn't so simple.

The hacked control.asc firmware you'll be FTP'ing is essentially the same as the original with one important exception. The instructions that normally tell the Brain Board to go out and look at U16 for an ESN are instead now telling the Brain Board to return a specific hard-coded ESN (the one in munk's text file), so no matter what your Brain Board's real ESN, the hacked firmware will always return this specific ESN (because the firmware is now instructed to do that). And since we know what the unlock codes are for OS 5.1 and a number of plugs for this specific ESN, this software can be authorized and operated just as though the ESN coming back was from the U12 chip on the Brain Board.

The reason munk said he could make this hack ESN any ESN you want is that for him, now that he's done all the heavy lifting, it's a simple matter of substituting a different ESN in the control.asc firmware. This might be useful in a scenario where we find a donor who is willing to share a 5.1 ESN that has a larger number of plugins authorized and has the unlock codes for all of those.

Pretty cool.

Hi Mike,

If you can mount your d8b hard drive on your desktop, by whatever means (USB, IDE, etc.), and your desktop OS can see and read the d8b filesystem, then you can probably just drag and drop the new control.asc to \system5\Firmware on the mounted d8b filesystem. If you go this route, please let us know how it works out.

I just remembered, when I did the d8b HDD cloning process write-up (in the database) that's how I got to the d8b filesystem. I got one of those USB to IDE/SATA/etc. adapters and when I plugged the drive in the entire d8b HDD filesystem was visible and could be managed using Explorer (File Manager) in Windows. Should work just fine.

Thanks BitSync,
One last question. Will my old mixes (saved to floppy) still work in 5.1 or would I have to start from scratch on some songs?
