Theres a link to them in the walkthrough for the CF cards in the database.
You can find that here:

There are a few ways to go about opening up the d8b without keys.

-There's using someone elses image, which limits you to the size of their original device, be it smaller or larger.
-You can install the patched files of (i think?) munkstrap? a control.asc file and enter some keycodes.
-Then there's the one I submitted some time ago here: download/file.php?id=448 which is a patch to the OS executable. (V5.1) It doesn't change your ESN, and doesn't require any keycodes to be entered. It is a patch which jmp's over the keycode verify routine, always returning a "valid condition" to any crypto query, thus anything installed is always valid. You install 5.1, then mount the disk on any computer and backup MackieOS.EXE to some backup (if you wish), and copy over the patched MackieOS.EXE file. Done.

Hey jf_uk;

Using what you have provided as to an alternative to "control.asc", how are the key codes for all the plug in handled?

Thanks
Bruce

Hi Bruce,

There is a verification routine in the mackieos.exe that handles anything requiring a key/hash to be validated against the system serial number, returning either a true or false condition. The patch causes a call to the routine to 'jmp' over it and return 'true' no matter what. This way, everything is valid. So when it boots a fresh v5.1, a call is made; "is there a key for this serial number" (and a pre-defined char string can't be NULL chars, so a padded blank string is still sent to the routine - which would usually say "that's not a valid code" being empty.) and the routine simply returns "true" and continues. When the code looks to verify plugins, similarly sending their empty strings to the verify routine, an automatic "true" is returned for every call.

This way, when you open the plugin authorisation page you will see they're all validated. If you click on the [enter keycode] button (or whatever it's called), you'll receive the message "plugin already authorized" because validation has already been returned [true] on the empty default strings.

I hope that makes sense.

Here's the actual patch, which anyone can do with a hex editor. The leftmost column is the offset/location, then existing value, and then new value.

If you are using a CF card instead of a harddrive, you can just use the image I made - it already contains the hack.

If you're still using the hard drive:
Go here:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1634&start=40#p12374

There's a description of how to install it. Let me know if it gives you trouble :-)

Hi arjepsen,

can i have a link of your CF image please?
thanks

Sure thing. Peter put them up on the database - there's a link to the zip file on this page:

more specifically here:

CPU Upgrade to older board.

Hello all of you who are willing to modify.

I finally got around to buying a new Pentium MMX 233 "SL27S" CPU to replace the 166mhz cpu as installed.
I have the older motherboard, and reading the manual, it shows this 233 is compatible, so why not. Installing
it requires a couple of DIP switch changes (two.. easy.) Putting a finger on it when up and running, it generates no heat too, so the existing little heatsink was adequate.

It *appears* that the UI is a little bit snappier. I recall opening windows and moving them around was a little
sluggish, but less so now. (noticeably) The meters are less sluggish at coming up etc. I am not sure what the overall gain is, but.. something's a little smoother. I also selected "advanced graphics" and.. it works.

So there. You can put a 233mhz SL27S in it. (YOU MUST CHANGE JUMPERS! It will be blown otherwise. RTFM.)

Nice to hear JF and thanks for sharing. Can you please tell us what are the settings of the dip switches please?

The dip switches changed are in the Amptron PM-9800 manual as from the d8b resource site somewhere, but here's a basic explanation:

With the cover open and the front of the unit towards you, there are three groups of 3-gang dips near the bottom edge of the board. There are NO other dip switches on this board. (you have more? wrong board. Stop.)
The RIGHTmost is 1, then middle is 2, and LEFTmost is 3. On sw1, the dips are all 0, or down. On sw2, the 166 settings are 110, but with the 233, this is now 100. (1=on) This one is the core voltage setting and the 233 operates at a lower voltage.. don't screw this one up. On sw 3, for the 166 it's 110, and with the 233, change to 000. (all off, like sw1).

The 166mhz ceramic is model P54C, the 233mhz is P55C. Ensure you have some heatsink compound (can be scraped from the previous chip if it was anything like mine..) on the metal centre lid, though this OS isn't CPU hungry (unlike ms-win) most of the time. (That was impressive by the way; The cpu was as cool as the metal case when running for a while.. no temperature increase. This would indicate an efficient OS...)

There's a picture of the manual, with my notes as I did my board.

And please exercise caution; double-check everything before powering up afterwards. ;)
