So lucky to have a site like this
I just bought a D8B to serve my Alesis HD24xr
The D8B has 3 optical cards and they are connected to the in:outs on the hd24
Im waiting on adapters to plug in the mouse and keyboard
When i switch to mixing layer 25-48 i get the return signal on the meters of tracks on the hd24 but no sound

I mean the meters on the D8B are functioning but no sound thru monitors
No other cables are attached
No midi cables
No clock cables

I may add: make sure you have channels 25-48 assigned to LR, set master to unity and monitor pot to the desired level you want to listen to. Also select the monitors you have connected: main or near.

This is probaby too obvious but it had happened to me in the past.

I Ed and welcome;

Also, you will need to have Word Sync (clock) between the d8b and you Alessis HD24xr, which means, hopefully, your d8b has an Apogee Word card installed and not just the Mackie Sync card.

Without the sync cables you will get "Tick sounds" as there is no digital reference between the 2 devices.

Post back as to how it's going.

Cheers
Brue

You guys are awesome
I guess those clock cables are more than just transport connectors
I thought i could run this like an inline analog console as far as the hd24 was concerned Thanks for the advice It has no effects cards installed

The apogee word clock card is the one to have. The factory Mackie card is worthless in my opinion.

You second statement is confusing by the way you wrote it. There is an OS 5.1 but it almost seems like you are talking 5.1 audio with the way you stated it. I you are indeed talking about OS version 5.1 than you need an unlock code to activate it. If you don't have it, check the 5.1 cracked thread to see if that can sort you out to get you upgraded from version 3 to version 5.1.

When it powers up the monitor says d8b version 5.1 and then the mixer display and the monitor presents a message to standby while version 3.0 is downloaded
Im confused too
