New to d8b and wow...

Hello all.

I picked up a d8b at a swap meet of all places. It was cheap, and I took a gamble.

Since I'm new to this wonderful mixer. It took awhile to make it work. Well, at least work to a point I can get life from it.

Seems I can not get it to record anything although it does pass audio and seems to be working.

Could missing files cause this?

Also, can you back up the OS to floppys? I would like to back it up, and possibly start fresh with a new OS install...

Thanks.

The d8b doesn't record anything. It's just a mixer. You'll need an external device to be the recorder.

I have a Apogee digital i/O card, and a aes/ebu i/O card.

As well as the apogee clock card.

And a opt 8 card.

Since I have 3 opt 8 cards in my MDR, I assume if I get two more of those I could record 24 tracks?

Yes, three in your MDR and three in your D8b but clean them first.

You can copy the OS from the Database to floppy's but I would see how it works first...don't mend it unless it's broken ;)

It has been a little bit of a PITA but it all works now, other then channel two sticks a bit. I can live with that for now.

I've got it talking with the MDR recorder using the opt24 card and light pipes.

I am very impressed with this console. This is my first digital mixer, and for what it does. I'm very happy. Hoping I can get years of use out of this old gal.

I bought my desk about a year ago and it's in pristine condition and I could not work without it now, and it looks great in my home studio. Glad you're having as much fun with it as I am.☺

Very nice setup. I can't wait to get out of this apartment and have a room to setup everything I have.

On a side note, I also have a s5000 sampler, as well as a emu e6400 and old peavy sampler. I used to use them a lot, but been doing most my stuff from romplers now.

Thanks. You have a good set up too by the sounds of things. Do you mix in the box or through the Desk? Also do you have the 5.1 software for the desk? Also I think the onboard effect are very useful too. You will have hours of fun fiddling around with this desk, and its easy to use which is what a good mixing desk should encourage you to do.

I mix and record to the MDR. I find this desk to be amazing. One of the coolest things so far to me. (At least makes my life better) is I can do, a drum track with say the E-MU mo phatt, using ch 1 and 2, send that to a different tape channel, and then use the same unit for a synth line, send that to another channel via clicking the to tape section. Frees me up from patching in the back.

But for now, what I do. Is record tracks to the MDR, then transfer the files to my work station and edit if needed.

No, I have a working setup of 5.0 tho I think a lot of the plug-ins got deleted off the drive. That or it only came with the effect and vocal studio. From what I read it need a second MFX card.

I would however like to do the 5.1 upgrade with a IDE to SD card adapter like I did for my MDR.
