HDR and PC FTP not working

Postby lnegro » Wed Sep 14, 2016 4:24 pm

I've tried and tried, followed instructions and can not see what I am doing wrong. I am trying to set up ftp between the HDR and a Windows 7 PC. Simple right? Here's what I did

Crossover cable between HDR and PC
PC TCPIP address set to 10.10.28.21 (one higher than HDR of 10. 10.28.20)
Subnet 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway 10.10.10.10
Run TCP on HDR in turbo mode (confirmed in system address is 10.10.28.20)
Restarted PC

Simple right? Nada! This is embarasing cause I am an ex IT professional

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Regards
Larry

OK....Downloaded and installed a different ftp client. Established connection between PC and HDR....but connected to the system drive. How do you connect to the HDR external drive??

Thanks

My wife figured out how to map the external drive...(how embarasing)....but admittedly this is a slow way to transfer files. Until I get some more CFs to work or....better yet an SSD I'll use ftp. BTW, the SSD adapter is tricky. Still looking for one to work. I also plan to take the large drive chip out of the MDR and install in the HDR since I am mostly using it.

Thanks to all for looking

Hi Larry;

What was the "different ftp client" you used? I can't get my XP computer to connect to my HDR.

I had it working once, but can no longer get it to work.

Thanks

Hey Funk;

How's it going!!!! Long time no chat to!

I was using the FTP software that came with XP the last time I had it working. It was great then it wasn't. I'm sure it is me as I am not familiar with this stuff at all. Mike Rivers helped me get up and running the last time.

Is ipswitch an FTP type software?

It gets complicated (for me at least), as the computer I use for my rig is not connected to the internet. This makes installing software from this machine (a Windows 7 PC) to my XP PC a little more difficult, again for me. Others may not have an no issue but at my current PC knowledge level it becomes frustrating.

I'l have a look at what you sent to see if I can find a answer.

Cheers Funk!

I still find Fetch to be faultless but maybe it's only a Mac App.

Hi Peter;

Thanks. I have a PC based system, but will look and see if Fetch will run on a PC.

Cheers

Did you do it bruce,
i found a very handy hint i think from munkustrap.
if its still not working do this
set up you pc ready connected with your x over cable to the HDR
then on the pc goto..
Start..
Run
Type "cmd"
then in your doss screen thats popped up
type "ping 10.10.28.20"
or what ever ip address you have in the HDR network tab.
so.. ping ( the HDR ip address)
press return
your pc will ping some data, 32 bytes to the hdr, and will try 4 times to get a reply
if no reply 100% loss then its the card or settings in the hdr.
might narrow down the problem.

my D8B would not FTP to my pc but my hdr's did.
i resat the card in the d8b and it worked a treat.

just to clear things up...
when you are using a FTP software client like say "IPSWITCH" you do not have to have the settings in the pc set up
as you are not getting the d8b or hdr talking to the pc, but just the software.
as long as the port is active.
for example,
when i plug the xover wire in to the pc,
i will get the ip port coming up in the bar at the bottom of the screen
it will search
and then turn into a yellow triangle with a question mark in it, with an error message saying it cant contact.
ignor that.
the ipswitch software does not need that.
it just connects right away
i can give you the settings for both if needed.
