All went black

Hi
I'll bought a used d8b CPU/PSU. Tested it on a 100% working console.
At the beginning it wouldn't pass the boot sequence, complaining about external L2 cash.
I turned off int/ext L2 in bios.... and it started... but..it took years. Rebooted and just turned the external cash off.
Internal was still on at this time. Now it booted up as usual. Over time it started to live its own life. Faders on the monitor starting to jump upp and down and pans as well.
Turned the thing off...
Next time I started the same PSU / CPU with another working console a day later it fires upp but the monitor is totally dead. Tested the monitor on another one, no problem. Swapped the VGA card for another. Still the monitor is showing nothing.
Somebody.... help... please!

Sorry for my bad English... I'm used to write in Swedish;)

I think the first thing you need to do to eliminate others is to take the lid off both d8b and CPU and clean and reseat everything you can get at, including cards, then, put in new batteries and re-check the CMOS setting and check the fuses...see where that gets you, good luck,

Phil

Hi

The lid is off both... I have replaced the bios battery. There is nothing wrong with the console itself.
Problem is that nothing shows up on the monitor so I can't enter bios settings. Fuses are checked all ribbons are checked. In facts you don't need the console to get the CPU to boot normally.... I think it's the RAM ports on the motherboard. I've tested many 128 and 256 MB 100 mz and nothing happened. It's the same behavior with or without them.

Had the same issue a while ago. It doesn't have to be the RAM; have you reseated the graphics card?

Yes
I have even replaced it with another. Just to make sure.
Still nothing....

It might sound like a silly question but have you checked your monitor and leads.

Maybe the video card has cashed it in.

Now I've replaced the motherboard and it works again. Next problem is that the pans on the console and the faders and pans on the gui starts to jump around and it will not stop... even the meters is jumpy.

I've ruled out that the jumpy thing is something in the psu for the d8b. I mean the 5v for the d8b.
How do you get this thing out of the CPU / PSU box.
There's some capacitors i will solder or replace.
