Hey guys,
The Reverb guy says that he has a brain board for sale that's loaded with plugins for $250.00. I know (pretty sure) I can do the transfer, but is this a good deal? Should I just buy the drive? I'm not sure.

I would say no.
The "Brain Board" is a printed circuit board inside the mixing console...
Your trouble is not the hardware in the console - you trouble is getting the software set up right on your cpu unit

The guy told me that all I had to do was switch the Brain boards and the new board would have a new ESN with authorized plugins. That's not true, or possibly?

It's quite possible, and probably also true.
But my point is, you don't need it.

The image I made of my d8b constains munkustraps hack, with the 5.1 version of the OS and all plugins activated.
If you buy the compact flash kit you mentioned, and get it installed, then you only need to use the guide I made, to transfer the image I made of my d8b to your compact flash card. That should get you a working system with all plugins enabled.

Hey Guys,
Just to let you know, I got the new drive a few days ago and I had some help lined up, but now I've got an unwelcomed guest coming my way named Irma. I'm also not sure what to do once I install, which doesn't look to bad. I'll let you know once I install.

Wow! What a week! I did not suffer much damage from Irma, but lost power for several days.

Anyway, I finally installed the cf drive. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be. OK, I got it powered up but it is asking for an authorization code. Do I have to clone the drive before it will work?

Never mind, I found my authorization code. Now, my keyboard is not working so I will have to figure it out
