Rafters Remixes (migrated to here)

OK, since the other forum has become "odd" and difficult to muck about, I am moving the Rafters Remix thread over here.

I thought I would make a seperate thread that I could update from time to time to let you guys that are following this, know when new tunes are being posted. The whole sorted affair is still here:

The original thread

But, this will be a thread that is a little more stripped down just so you won't have to hunt for the updated remixes way down the page.

All mixes will be here with Soundcloud links for streaming and I will edit this thread as I update tunes. I will also park them on a public site here so you can grab them as a 320 mp3 download if you are so inclined. Enjoy!

Hey Crash.

Nice mixes. Are these the final ones or are you still revisiting them?

The more I see the Soundcloud concept, the more I like it.

Peter Holmquist.

Yea, Peter, Soundcloud really is quite the bees knees, especially if you are working on mixes with someone that is out of country or what not. Being able to put notes on the mix at specific times is quite useful. I thank you for doing your bit on this end to make SC possible on here.

These mixes are done other than I may tweak some of the mastering compression here or there...maybe. I still have 6 more songs to go though, if that is what you are asking. One of them is getting an entire section retooled I believe. Just waiting on the stars to align with me and the bass player and some chick backup singers. While I like these finished tunes quite a bit, there are a couple of songs that I will probably remix that just were not that good to begin with...so my heart will not be in it. So far, I am working on the tunes I liked originally. I'll give it a go even on the turds, ya never know, I may polish one (or two) up nicely and surprise myself.

For those of you following along, a new tune is up. This one is called Freight Train, the only song to feature "Banjo Boy" on vocals. It is a fun little tune in my opinion, short with a killer little guitar outburst at the end that makes me think of the Hawaiian islands for some reason. I hope you enjoy....

I couldn't get Freight Train to do its thing. Doesn't fill the buffer like the others.

Peter

Edit: It's ok now. Must've been user error. Cool little track. I like 'em all. :)

I will get up a newer mix of Freight Train in the next day or two. Upon further listening, the vocals and some other things are coming in a tad too early. When I transferred all this stuff to the HDR from the DA-88's, I had to do it in two passes due to one of the three DA-88's not staying locked to its' brethren. So, I am having to slide the middle eight tracks to their correct time via musical cues and on this track it sounds like I am off a few... doh. Anyway, stay tuned.

Thanks for the comments Peter, glad you like them.

OK, another version of that tune is up, hopefully I caught all the oddities... It was gonna be an easy quick mix I said to myself.... Like that ever works out.

Anything I would say and hope to add would frankly sound trite at best... oh what the heck I don't care... AWESOME!!!

Very fresh... oh oh, there I go again!

Thanks Michael. Only 5 more tunes to go.... When I get this all finished, I should put up the original mixes so you guys can hear the differences. It is frightening what I thought was a decent mix back in the day, though it was mixed in a van, but still....

Just finished a new tune. It's called Somebody loves Me. Once again, it seemed pretty straight forward but it was a more complicated mix than I thought it would turn out to be. It always takes you twice as long and more effort than you think. Maybe the one that I anticipate kicking me in the teeth will be easier, I doubt it but maybe. Thank the Good Lord for automation.

I am unsure if the download site is working properly at the moment. The wife slapped a password on it for some project or another. Once that is done, you guys will be able to go back there and grab the tunes off the Idisk site, if you so desire. For the moment, Soundcloud is the ticket.
