OMG that is fantastic news. Thank from the bottom of our hearts. So hear is some more inspiration to help keep the project alive. This past weekend I finished the fabrication on my to Rack unit new CPU case. I ran into some trouble with power supplies because I bought the wrong ones and I'm now waiting for the right ones to come which should be in about three weeks. In the meantime have a look at these pics. I am also going to post this on the other thread we have going under build a new power supply.

The OS boots up and works, but still having issues with console power supplies I bought the wrong power supplies. I switched gears in the middle of the project and decided to mount all of the original d8b parts into the two unit rack case pictured here. The only thing not mounted yet is the Transformer which I'll put in the empty space behind the right side Bays. In the end the unit will use the original linear power supply board which will Supply +/- 16v and 48v. 12v will be supplied by the psu and the new power supply I'm getting will provide + 5 and +/- 5 sense.

What you cannot see in this picture on the right side behind the lower Grill there are two additional fans inside so this unit will have for operating fans plus the CPU fan to keep it cool. So even by using some of the original parts, the win is better Cooling, and a new power supply to replace the failing Aztec LPS 152 that frequently fails.

More pics of the build. The most difficult part of this was cutting a perfect hole for the d8b on off switch and machining the backplane to fit the video card mounted sideways.

Schweet... that's pretty damn impressive, and I'm a hardware geek (been involved in hi-tech since ~ '84)...

I'd personally recommend losing that archaic floppy drive for an emulator (ie. GoTek) and you'd pretty much remove any legacy tech sludge from the hardware BOM. It's considerably more reliable on an order of magnitude. I actually extracted the bootable images of all the install media for both pieces of gear (D8B & HDR) onto a usb stick... last time was during upgrades to install the 5.1 operating system community version (cracked), and reinstall my HDR (v1.40 b420).... both when I upgraded to compact flash card bootable media. At this point, it's safe to say you'll use it only once... and then put the usb stick into safe storage (just in the event)... ;)

Add it as a task for a Phase 1.1 upgrade endeavor or something... that way you won't forget about it, and you can put it off til later when time permits and it's more feasible. It literally drops right in, under 5 minutes time... just a suggestion... :geek:

Again RJH_MUSIC, really impressive fabrication, wiring and internal chassis work. You're blazing a trail here, I could see meselfs embarking on such a thing at some point. I'm definitely gonna be lurking around and watching this thread...

I am humbled! thanks much for the comments. Yeah, i thought about the floppy, but it looks so damn good,,,, i just thought a little nostalgia looked good. A flash drive or stick would make much better sense. If we get the OS cracked at some point this whole project will take a glorious turn.

Quick update on this project. I received the +5 SWPS a couple of days ago and mounted it. Also mounted the transformer. All I have left to do in the next day or so is build a 25' extension to the Big Friggen Cable and I should be able to connect and test.

Quick update on project. Having Difficulty threading 18 wires through a 1/2 inch Flexible conduit so I can extend the the 15' umbilical cord umbilical cord to 40'. As soon as I can get them all threaded through I can hook it up and turn it on. I have an idea of what I need to do I think I'm just too lazy to do it so I'm trying to take a shortcut. And the shortcut is it working.
