How to replace switch covers.

I've just changed three switch covers and thought some photos and info might be usefull to others.

The switch covers have two hinges which over time become week so the cover will either drop down lower than normal on the desk or will be loose.

No 1 picture shows the desk with the bottom plate removed, it's a good idea to number the ribbons and where they go.

No 2 picture shows the DSP plate removed, three screws at the top and three at the bottom, it won't come straight out, one side has to be removed first.

Image

No 3 picture shows the right hand switch board removed, small screws at the front of the desk and trim knobs need to be removed. The arrow on the right shows two removed covers, they are just pulled off but safer to push the lugs from underneath.
To remove the left board, the support (arrowed) need to be removed, this is done by first removing the consul's plastic side to get to the supports two screws.

No 4 picture shows the two boards, support and consul side removed.

No 5 picture shows one of the switch covers removed and the broken switches.

Phil,

With the experience/s that I have had over the past few months with the donated console (still working on it now and then !!!) doing what you did still looks like a long and complicated process !!!!!

Not complicated at all David, just a step by step, once you know the precedure it's pretty straight forward, it should take between one and two hours to strip everything, change the switch covers and re-assemble.

The time invoved has a lot to do with undoing and redoing screws!

I just hope this post will help people with switch cover replacement.

Phil,

Thankfully that part of the donated console is OK. Apart from the fact that it doesn't work, the console looks virtually brand new.

I would suggest that there are possibly quite a few owners who will be very gratefull for the information that you have supplied, but just one question, where would you get new switch covers from ????? Or have I missed something --- again !!!

I doubt very much if "new" switch covers are available anymore David, so it's a second hand job...that is if you can find them!

Thanks Guys, I just thought it might help someone, not just with the switch covers but for a general strip.
