a few funky chunes from the d8b and hdr...

Postby funk » Sun Apr 02, 2023 4:16 am

hi guys a few chunes from the funk Lab, or, it could be the funk Lav :-)
thanks peter the sound cloud link works a treat.

1, Freedom...... our anti lockdown track https://on.soundcloud.com/vQoYx

2, True............ A great song by Funkafonix featuring the amazing drum tallent of the late great Clyde Stubblefield
(Clyde Austin Stubblefield) (April 18, 1943 – February 18, 2017) the worlds best "funky drummer"
if you get the chance please check out some of his work, you will be well rewarded,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clyde_Stubblefield,
I think Clyde's drumming inspired more tracks to be written and drummers than any other drummer,
this track is just one of 1000s to be inspired him, without which the track would never have come about,
his drumming will continue to inspire and push the boundaries of music forever.

There is something else going on in this track, which may also seem familiar,
and that is it was also inspired by the feel of "whats going on" by Marvin Gaye,
another ground breaking song writer that also should never be forgotten,
again please check out Marvin's amazing legacy
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvin_Gaye.

So, the inspiration ?
well, this started out as a test piece to see if something so beautiful and relaxing as a feel
of whats going on would fit over something so funky as Clyde's drum beat,
no way in a million years you would think, and yet, here it is.
I hope you all enjoy it, sit back, relax and let it sooth your soul,
its a true testament of how these two icons, Clyde and Marvin,
still inspire and help push the boundaries of modern music.
Thank you Clyde and Marvin.

3, Lonely , us and a roland dr880, https://on.soundcloud.com/XCK8b
i cant say enough about the DR880 its a fantastic studio tool for lots of reasons.

4, an attempt at trying a 4/4 song over a 3/4 drum ! thinking that every few bars in the song would have a different drum patton, sort of works, ! ! i think ! !. keys influnced by the magic Deodato. i love that guys music, check him out. https://on.soundcloud.com/kuxGD
