Error 43 Host did not boot.

Postby Wadro » Thu May 26, 2011 12:11 am

First of all I want to say that there is no disc in my floppy. Secondly, I've reset bios and replaced battery, reseated all accessable ribbon cables, reformated the hard drive, reinstalled OS 5.1, replaced RAM, replaced video card, reseated data cable. Is there something I've missed or is thing just dead? What really sucks is that I just had a new computer built to finally get me into Protools 9 with a new RME HDSP 9652, and while awaiting its arrival, the whole thing craps out on me. Anyone got any fresh ideas?

Welcome to the forum Wadro.

How far does the boot up sequence go on the screen? Or is it no video screen at all?

Thanks for the response Peter! It makes it as far as "Loading MackieOS, Please Wait..." There is also a green astrick flashing on the far right side of the screen.

You sure you have compatible RAM in there? Do you have the old sticks still around?

Now I'm getting "Error: DSP Control Card Not Ready". Still... a big improvement.

Seems too simple of a solution but it's worth a shot.

I just had this problem about two weeks ago and cleared it up by disconnecting everything from the d8b, taking the bottom off, and reseating every one of the many ribbon cables inside the board. Some people say spray DeOxit on the contacts, I just reseat them and it seems to work.

Sorry for reviving this old thread. I'm new here (just picked up two d8b units yesterday), and just wanted to report that I had the same symptom as Wadro above ("Loading MackieOS... then screen goes blank and Error 43), and it was also caused by the harddrive.

I swapped harddrives between the two CPUs, and it booted up just fine.

I figured this might help someone else struggling with the same kind of problem without wasting as much time as I did (I reseated all PCI/ISA cards in the CPU and ribbon connectors in the console first, which I think wasn't necessary in my case).

Now to explore my new/old toy... :)
