Could a new d8b be something like this?

Discussion board for Mackie's d8b Digital Console users.

Could a new d8b be something like this?

Postby AMP studio » Mon Nov 24, 2008 7:11 pm

96 channels, 96 track recorder, effects... this looks a lot like what a d8b for 2009 could be.

Eclipse console.

I hope Mackie does get it's act together considering the recording market for a new dedicated studio console.
They have (had?) the expertise to surprise again, as they did when the d8b was launched.

Considering the ass biting they got from the release of the dxb, I doubt we will see another digital console from Mackie. I would love to be proven wrong on this though...

Wow! What a nice mixer.

Two questions:

- Any idea about the price?
- Does I have DAW control (HUI or any other protocols)?

Thanks for sharing, Paulo.

Am I missing something or does that board only operate at 48K or thereabouts?

Peter
In the scheme of things, there isn't one... just chaos.

Yes, it's quite possible. It was thought for live SR so, they must have considered it to be enough. Still, with 48 busses and a dedicated 96 track hard-disk recorder (would be nice if it sounds as good as Radar) it sounds a lot like a recording console to me.
Not sure about the 48KHz though.
All i know is what's on the site and there aren't that many reviews yet, or at least, the reviews there are seem to be based on the site info as well. The two other console models they have operate on internal 40 bit wordlegth though.

Edit: there's one thing that i think excedes what one might call "a nice touch". This: «All faders have an LED colour ID strip which quickly allows the user to denote the channels assigned function.»

...

«the estimated price for the standard console version will be 65,000 euros, with the MARS-equipped version adding a further 10,000 euros to the cost.»

I don't mean to be rude but, tell 'em they're dreaming.

That's why Mackie could, should, do it again.

Yes, well, lets see what's hidden in "the dark".
