Startup Issues

Postby StudioQ » Wed May 09, 2012 11:14 pm

It often takes 2, 3 and sometimes more attempts for my d8b to start up without issues such as meters lit for no reason or
the dreaded system error message popping up. Now it has started up without loading the onboard MFX 3.0 effects.
It was working fine yesterday after I reseated all the cards and cables. Does the BIOS battery have anything to do with it. Should I replace it? Thanks for help.

Also I forgot to mention the recent mixes I saved are not showing up either.

If it were me, I'd replace the battery and reset the BIOS anyway. $2.00? what ya got to lose?

Maybe your HD's on the way out. Reload the OS and Service Pak. That will give you an indication as to whether or not the floppy drive is gasping as well.

Few other things but not loading the FX makes me jump to the HD.

If it is the HD and you manage to find one, let us know from where

OK Thanks, I will replace the battery. I just started it up again to see if it had cured itself but no!
I went to shut it down and a window popped up titled 'Previous plug in path loss warning' in the window it said 'Save and lose plug in data not found when originally opened'. I remember now this came up before and it would not let me shut down without clicking OK which I did one time.
Could that have caused me to lose MFX and some mixes?

+1 on the HDD

I'd suggest the CF card and adaptor on the other thread. Cheaper, better, safer and easier to get than any compatible HDD today.

Battery replaced, BIOS reset, still no MFX or recent mixes. Mackie support said reinstall operating system.
Before I do are there any other options I could try?
Thanks for all your help

HDD. Replace and reinstall.

Before swapping or reinstalling, make sure to take a through backup though, as customary with such operation on any computer, or computer based equipment.

Update: Ghosts in the machine are very capricious. After reseating cards in the console many times and also in the
CPU and reinstalling the software I have progress, mixes have returned. MFX did not load at startup but appeared when I opened my latest mix. Meters are still lighting up but I have only started it up twice :)
Any thoughts?
Many thanks for suggestions so far.
