Hooking up TWO D8B's

Is it important to have an Ethernet card in each CPU in order to hook up two d8b's together?

Can someone describe this hooking up pls?

I have duel d8b's and HDR's, if I remember right the Ethernet connections are to link the mutes, solo's etc, etc, together. The hookup info is in the Mackie d8b info,
