HDR external drive conversion to SD card

Postby jchandler » Thu Mar 31, 2016 9:38 pm

Hi everyone:
My first post, so please forgive my stupidity. I've just completed conversion of my external drive to utilize SD cards. I bought 16Gb cards from Sandisk & Silicon Power (Class 10). My HDR recognizes the external drive on bootup (so Master jumper is correct) and I'm able to format the external drive in the usual manner. Verifying performance is another matter. Read performance seems to be OK, but write seems to be slow....slow enough that I get the message that the drive is not suitable for realtime--only suitable for archival purposes. Does anyone know a way to make this drive work in realtime?
Thanks!
Jim

Problem solved. Replaced 40 wire ribbon with 80 wire and utilized a Sandisk Extreme Pro 32GB SDHC card which is much faster than standard Class 10. Up to 95 MB/sec. Anyway, all good now. 32GB gives about 2-1/2 hrs of 24 track record time @ 24/48.
