Video cards

Postby Old School » Mon Dec 11, 2017 10:09 pm

Hi all,
Does anyone have a list of which Radeon video cards work. My HDR refused to boot, so I had to steal a video card from my spare. I remember someone said that as long as it had the 7000 series chipset it would work. My question is, does the "series" include 7200 and 7500 models or does it have to be a 7000 only? Also wondering it 32MB or 64MB makes a difference. Also I think someone said they had a PCI model working instead of AGP. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Have a blessed day in Christ,
Mike W.

Hi Funk,
Thanks for the info! I think we should start a list to be included in the database of known part numbers that work. I ordered one of the ATI Rage 109-48300-00 that you know works. I can also state that Radeon Pro AGP 109-49800-11 and ATI Rage 109-52000-30 Have been pulled from working units in my studio. Perhaps others could contribute any different part #'s that are known to work.

Have a blessed day,
Mike W.

Nobody knows.

I think Funk's list in the post before yours, was meant as the beginning of a list, where people can add video card models they tested, that turned out to work.

So, if you tested a card and it DOES work, please share it here / add it to the list.

It might also be useful to share info about video cards that are from the same series as those that are listed here as working, but that didn't end up working (e.g. a different ATI Rage with a different number). This might help others who are looking to buy a "similar" card that someone has tested that turns out not to work.

Generally speaking, if a video card will work or not, will depend on the video card DRIVER that is built into the Mackie OS. Just like with Windows or Mac video drivers, such drivers often support several models from a product-series, but since no official list of supported video cards is available, the only way to create such a list is by trial and error, and sharing if it ended up working on this forum.

Because of that, I'd suggest trying video cards from the same product family (e.g. ATI Rage or Radeon), but staying away from video cards with completely different chips on them (e.g. NVidia, etc.).
