Swapping d8b for...

Postby the boss » Thu Jul 02, 2015 2:29 pm

Hi

A question for all who knows.
I'm about to sell one of my two working d8b's for a Sony DMX 100r.
How about that.... Is it a good choice?

I think its a very good choice
from what I read even though the Sony DMX 100r
is outdated its a very good console. are you getting the DMX 100r
at a good deal. if you don't want it let me know I have always wanted one
if the price is right. thanks

If they have a forum as good as this one then, I guess it's ok.

Ok

I'll get it for approximately 1000 $.
I think it's hard to mix with a forum but I love my d8b's so I'm going to keep both :)

Update....
Now I've got my Sony DMX 100.
Including shipping costs.... 550 euro.
The If 735 card was burned out.
So... I've got contacts in Japan and for 30.000 yen they've sent me a new card (210 euro).

Got the new card in place and.... Rock n roll.
A new inverter was already in place.
Two option cards is installed.
Working like a charm..... But....

I love my two d8b's....so....
I really don't like the Sony DMX.
1. No midi options more than machine control.
2. No internal hd to save project to.
3. No buss out.

So I've got usb to rs 232 adapter and a floppy to USB emulater....
Now I can edit the mix and save to USB or to my Mac computer.
I still don't like it.
Yeah... The sound is better but not better then my tascam m600 console.
For all to know..... The d8b has it all and the OS 5.1 is much better than DMX 100 OS.
And the Ethernet and cascade options on the d8b is very nice.
Probox.... And so on...,
My two d8b's will stay in my studio because all things the Sony don't got.

For sale in Sweden:
Sony DMX 100
New if 735 card and a inverter.
Two option cards and rs 232 to USB converter and a floppy emulater.

Peace;)

A friend of mine had the Sony for many years and liked it. When it started acting up on him, there was only one place in New Jersey that serviced them in this day and age. He opted to dump it after it crapped the bed a second time and went with a Tascam DM4800 running with PT. I worked on the Sony a couple of times and just couldn't dig it. It felt clunky....Good luck selling it.

I've always said that Mackie became increasingly more concerned as time went by that they had actually designed & manufactured a product that would endure until now and for my ears, on into the future. "Clunky" was a good word re the Sony, Crash, looking at its control surface... and with clever people like Munkustrap designing the ProBox, whaddya have to lose?

I agree :)

Been there, done that..,,
All good words about the DMX.
If you look at what you get.... No way for the money.
I've owned the tascam DM you talking about and a Yamaha 02r v2.
If you know a little bit about how it works there is no trouble to fix the small things on an old d8b.
Just hope not all just use it for the probox and mess up the audio part for further use.
I don't think the sound is too bad if you manage to get the digital sync to work.
Later on ill get a d8b just for spears.
Thanks for your opinion.
I think this is good to know for all on this forum. ;)

I'll still hope for more development on the d8b's CPU and OS because it's a great console.. :)
